a beautiful, innocent soul
she was.
oblivious of the fact
that this world
is no place
to lay one’s pearls
out in the open
unguarded; unshielded.
and so
she wore her heart
on her sleeve
like a proud badge of honour
dishing out a piece
to anyone and everyone
who requested.
soon
they punched holes all over it
leaving her bruised
and permanently scarred.
she could have saved herself
this damage
had someone warned her
earlier
but it’s too late now.
and she’s gonna have to learn
to live
with a heart, damaged
for life.
